Purchase Manager Test Assessment

The purchasing managers are responsible for a wide variety of procurement as well as vendor, manufacturer, and customer relations. They manage a portfolio of assigned vendors/manufacturers, product evaluation coordination, new product introduction, product conversions, buying for designated functional areas, and product research.

The purchase managers contact appropriate vendors and negotiate specific terms for purchases that meet customer requirements when specific contracts do not exist.

They place orders, verify pricing and availability, investigate overdue orders and problem invoices, and communicate timely and efficiently with all contacts for assigned discipline.

They monitor vendor performance and contract adherence by ensuring product quality and advantageous pricing. They provide a commercial assessment of technically qualified suppliers and regularly generate feedback on vendor performance.

They must be able to aid in ‘Make or Buy’ Decisions and understand the financial implications of each purchase decision. They must possess the ability to understand macro trends in the market regarding their product category. They must excel in vendor analysis.

They are expected to understand the latest trends in supply chain management. They need to oversee all aspects of inventory management, including the following tasks:

  • Direct and coordinate with the purchasing team to reduce costs and improve efficiencies and customer service.
  • Manage existing inventory levels, analyze, track and forecast item usage, current trends, and company changes that might affect inventory to determine current and future needs.
  • Source products are soliciting competitive bidding from multiple suppliers, recommending new suppliers, and creating purchase orders.
  • Reconcile and resolve vendor inventory and/or contract discrepancies, product recalls, and defects.
